To some, this 'greening' exercise might sound a bit mundane, therefore, Shell has come up with a brilliant idea on how to impose the green efforts to every people around the world.
Thus, Shell Eco-Marathon was launched.
Shell Eco-Marathon began in 1985 in France, where it is a competiton that challenges the innovation and creativity of students around the world in terms of design, build and test vehicles that travel further using less energy. Since then, the competition was held in the various parts of Europe, and in 2007, the Shell Eco-Marathon Americas was held.
And now, it has finally come to Asia, and Malaysia is the first Asian country to host this inaugural event! This is such an honour as Malaysia will be hosting this event for 3 consecutive years!
The principle of this competition is simple: to design and build a vehicle that uses the least amount of fuel to travel the farthest distance.

There are two different categories:
(i) Prototype
- futuristic, streamlined vehicles focused on maximizing fuel efficiency through innovative
design elements
(ii) UrbanConcept
- vehicles design similar to those road going vehicles in appearance and technology to address
current transportations aspects
TOC was invited to be at the launch of the Shell Eco-Marathon Asia 2010 Curtain Raiser, where it was an eye opening experience as we get a sneak peak as 5 selected student teams from Malaysia and Singapore drove specially built energy efficient cars around Sepang International Circuit's north track.
