Changing lives…one heartbeat at a time


Like most city folks, we get off from work to go to the supermarket hastily, zooming past and ignoring every counter’s salesperson reaching out to you to buy their credit cards or mobile network…
…until…

“Adelaine!” he shouted. I had already walked 5 steps past his counter, but I stopped and turned my head to him, thinking that he was an acquaintance, so I didn’t want to be rude, not realising that my name was printed on my shirt.
It was only seconds after that did I realise that we didn’t know each other but he caught my name on my shirt in a heartbeat as I hurried past him, knowing he could get my attention that way.

That really is THE BEST salesmanship, don’t you agree? He completely took my guard away, and the only way I could applaud his great work was to stay and listen to what he had to sell.
Turns out that Arunan – a self-acclaimed “tall, dark, and handsome man” – has inspired me to care less about being a city folk and more about underprivileged children around my country and my world. Instead of paying tax, we could pay a little each month and change children’s lives forever.

Thank you, Arunan, for changing mine…

a colleague of mine sent me this photograph of a restaurant in Spain. Restoran Nyamuk? How would you like your mosquito… fried, grilled or raw – sushi style?
Did you know that…

• The word "mosquito" is Spanish for "little fly," and its use dates back to about 1583 in North America (Europeans referred to mosquitoes as "gnats").
• Mosquitoes are insects that have been around for over 30 million years. There are about 2,700 species of mosquitoes.
• Female mosquitoes drink blood and the nectar of plants; the males only sip plant nectar.
• Mosquitoes can travel a mile or more from their breeding spot to find a meal.
• The de Havilland Mosquito was a British combat aircraft that excelled in a number of roles during the Second World War.
• The MosquitoTM is the name of a device that uses high frequency sound to deter youths from congregating in large groups and acting in an anti-social manner.
• The Mosquito XE is an ultralight manned helicopter.

Overall, it was a successful fair, with numbers of visitors predicted to exceed last years' at 70 000. TOC received over 500 enquiries and of which 92 turned up for the FREE OTTO Camp on Saturday, 17th January 2009.

Thank you all very much for your support and especially to Andrew Tan, Aaron Lim and the A1 team, the Hypertune girls - Jen Ai and Li Ling, Yumi, the Jia Yu team and last but not least, to all the staff, students and alumni that sacrificed your weekends to come help out.

Programmes offered by TOC (Short Courses)

TOC Short Courses

The mobile accessories industry is a multi-million dollar a year industry and the demand for skilled and competent technicians far exceed supply. To meet this shortage, we have developed several short courses, each designed to help youths kick-start a rewarding career within the accessories sales and installation industry. These short courses are facilitated by industry coaches who bring with them years of valuable experiences. These short courses are open to individuals aged 17 years and above with a strong interest in the chosen area of study. Interested students will be placed into relevant workshops to gain practical training after completing them.

Car Audio System Installation

Students will starts this 4-months course by learning the correct usage of tools, critical knowledge on auto electrical systems, inferior trims assembly and disassembly, construction of speaker boxes and audio system installation. You will then focus on the advanced aspects of car audio installation, especially on mastering audio and sound technologies, sound proofing, sound staging and separation as well as customized installation.

Workshop Practices & Basic Automotive Technology; Inferior Trims; Speakers & Speakers Fabrication; Audio System Installation; Audio & Sound Technology; Wiring; Interface & Assemblies;Sound Proofing; Sound Separation; Glass Tinting; Basic Customer Service.

Automotive Air Conditioning Servicing (Coming soon)

This is a 4-month course designed to cater for both working and non-working individuals. Students will start with familiarisation of the automotive electrical systems and components, followed by understanding basic automotive air conditioning systems operations, its components, layout and locations. Students are then trained to perform periodic and preventive maintenance jobs their service and repair skills in more complex situations like removing bad odour, fault diagnising and remedy using suitable techniques, and retrofitting activities.

Automotive Electrical System; Auto Air Conditioning; Mechanical And Electrical Layouts; Service Repair; Bad Odour Removal; Psychrometrics; Retrofitting; Basic Customer Service.

Certificate in English Proficiency (CEP)

This programme is designed to enhance and improve student's proficiency level focusing on writing, speaking and listening skills. The programme will also prepare students for further studies in English speaking countries. Each level is approximately 4 months and students will join the appropriate level depending on their current proficiency
