Merry Christmas from all at TOC!

On the 17th of December, TOC held a Christmas party for all its staff members. The night was filled with lots of fun, songs and very good food!
As a treat to the staff for all the hard work they have put in, TOC's Board of Directors sponsored 2 whole (very yummy) roast lambs.
Games were also played that night, with prizes to be won! Some of the games include: Charades, "Stop-Dance" and also poison box, which featured the many hidden talents some of our staff have - some wicked dance moves and Malaysian Idol worthy voice.=)
The training department also put up an excellent performance!Entertaining us with a medley of Christmas songs in different languages.
The highlight of the night was this year's gift giving session =) Instead of the usual gift exchange between staff, this year, we have gone to the roots of the true Christmas spirit! The spirit of giving..

This year, what TOC staff did was to donate Christmas presents to charity, to an orphanage in Klang called "Good Samaritan Home".
Representatives of the different departments from TOC went to the home, bringing along with them the gifts and donations collected over the previous week. Some staff even dressed up to the occasion by wearing Santa hats! One of our trainers also brought a guitar, to rock up a little performance for the children =)
The children enjoyed themselves, dancing and singing along to the Christmas carols.
It was a nice day out, seeing the children laugh and run around, having fun. Thank you to all staff for making this event possible, from donating gifts and necessities to these children in need. Thank you all for taking time off your busy schedules to visit these children, hopefully making this Christmas an especially memorable one.
Thank you all once again! We hope you all had a good Christmas celebration!!

Good Samaritan Home is an orphanage located in Klang, founded in January 1999, taking in children who come from families where parents have abandoned them, or where a parent is unable to cope with divorce, or where the child has lost one or both parents. (source)

The one and only Bumblebee!!=D

We would like to thank all the staff and students for making the event possible! =) We hope that everyone enjoyed their day at KLIMS and looking forward to the next event already..

SSMH Charity Carnival 2010

Over the last weekend, a meaningful event has taken place on the rooftop of Jaya 33 Mall, Petaling Jaya, where the Charity Carnival by Society for the Severely Mentally Handicapped (SSMH) was held. Started at 10am and ended at 4pm, it was an event filled with food, games, lucky draw and performances aimed to raise funds for SSMH. SSMH is a non-profit organization that helps to provide education and day care service to children who suffered from severely mentally disabled children by teaching them basic self-help skills.

The opening ceremony of the charity carnival was officiated by the CEO of SSMH Puan Fadillah bt Mohd Yakin. In her speech, she stated that this charity carnival is targeted to raise RM200,000, where these money will be used entirely on the operation of the training centre for special children.

The sponsors of the event were given certificate of gratitude presented by Her Highness, Tengku Putri Norzehan Ibni Almarhum Sultan Salahudin Abdul Aziz Shah Alhaj.

Besides helping SSMH to sell the tickets prior to this charity carnival, TOC staff and students were there as volunteers to show their support as well. They were assigned to two different booth, one being Lucky Dip and the other a drinks station. Some of them even invited their family along to lend a helping hand to this good cause.

Performances line-up for the day include Daniel Lee, who was the winner for the second season of Malaysian Idol, and also the rising star singer-songwriter Amirah Ali, where both performances received thunderous applause from the crowd.

Despite the scorching hot weather, it did not deterred the crowd from showing up for this great event. Due to the generous support from various organizations the likes of TOC, sponsors, and the public, not only did SSMH hit their target of RM200,000 halfway throughout the event, but they have also managed to spread the awareness about the needs of the children who suffer from severe mental retardation.

If you would like to contribute funds to or be a volunteer for SSMH, please visit http://www.ssmh.org.my/for further information.

Generous Support Needed for the Severely Mentally Handicapped

Severely mentally handicapped people are those who suffer from mental and physical (multiple) disabilities, such as Cornelia De Lange Syndrome, cerebral palsy, Down Syndrome and epilepsy. But these does not mean that they should not receive any form of education or training, and this is the reason why the Society for the Severely Mentally Handicapped (SSMH) exist.

SSMH is a non-profit organization that provides day care and education for the severely mentally disabled children and youths, aged 2 to 19 years that meets the centre's requirements, via the usage of special methods, activities and set-up of the Snoezelen Room to stimulate the different senses.

In its recent bid to raise funds, SSMH has organized a charity carnival this Sunday, and TOC gives them full support on this. Besides helping to create awareness and promote the event by selling the carnival tickets to all staff, selected staff and students will also be there on Sunday as volunteers to help them in making this event a great success.
